Black and White and Read All Over was inspired by an article on The Black Stallion Literacy Foundation, an organization that uses horse books to encourage children to read. Melissa A. Brown used illustrated horse books to decoupage the body of the horse. Brown chose the grazing horse style to allow small children to get close enough to look for some of their favorite stories. Brown is an Associate Member and former Director of Education of the American Academy of Equine Art. The artist’s proceeds from the auction of this horse will be given to The Black Stallion Literacy Foundation.
